Building the Plan

Lesson 16 of 30 · 10 min

Budget for learning and delivery

Connect spend, reach, frequency, and time.

Budget is a constraint, not a strategy

Estimate what the budget can realistically buy, then compare it with the objective. CPM translates spend into impressions; reach and frequency show whether those impressions can create enough distinct exposure.

Protect a learning budget

Avoid spreading a small budget across too many channels. Fund the core plan first, reserve a defined amount for one or two questions, and set decision rules before results arrive.

Work out the minimum viable budget

Before allocating anything, ask what it costs to reach a meaningful share of the audience often enough to be remembered. If the budget cannot fund that in the whole market, narrow the market rather than thinning the plan.

Reserve for the unglamorous line items

Ad serving, verification, creative production and measurement all consume budget that never becomes an impression. Deciding these up front prevents them being taken from working media halfway through the flight.

Takeaway

Fund enough repetition to be noticed and enough testing to make the next plan smarter.
